Candyland-like event raises money for Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Ice Kingdom at the Prudential Center in Newark recently was the site of a fundraiser hosted by CareOne, a provider of senior health care, to raise money for the New Jersey chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Foundation makes wishes come true for children throughout New Jersey with medical conditions that are life-threatening. A wish typically costs about $10,000.

A spokesperson for CareOne said that the event had raised $1.3 million. Elizabeth Straus, Executive Vice President, and Daniel Straus, CEO, said that over 1,000 people came to the Prudential Center, which was transformed into a wonderland of candy for the day. There were drinks, food, face painting and games.

Take-home gifts were also offered that included candy from Dylan’s Candy Bar and a Build-a-Bear stuffed animal. Other booths may have turned to the use of banner printing to create Banners highlighting their special offerings.

Daniel Straus commented that it had been a truly amazing afternoon, showing how much people care about and believe in these children. His organization was delighted and proud to partner with Make-A-Wish New Jersey and make the gift that was the single largest from a corporation in the history of the chapter.

Elizabeth Straus added her pride in the ability of the facility’s employees to extend their caring outside of the facility and into the community.
