A new ice cream shop has recently opened inside Ani Ramen in Jersey City. Luigi’s Ice Cream is an “ice cream speakeasy” in that the ice cream served is infused with alcoholic beverages.
Owner Luigi Beltran commented that what makes his ice cream different from to other varieties infused with alcohol is that the alcohol is not burned off during the production process, so it remains in the ice cream, producing a stronger flavor. The “speakeasy” concept is that the ice cream shop has a semi-secret location at the back of the Ani Ramen. Customer need to know the directions in order to find his shop.
The ice cream is made in small batches at his facility in Red Bank, and is hand-rolled. There are ice cream flavors without any alcohol in them too, so that kids can be brought to the shop as well. However, those who want to try the alcohol-infused treats will need to bring some form of identification.
Among the boozy ice cream flavors are Hennessy and pineapple, Godiva Dark Liqueur, Cinnamon Toast Crunch topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, and RumChata Liqueur with vanilla ice cream. Kids can enjoy, among others, the fudge brownie ice cream.
Flyer printing might be used to promote such unique concepts in desserts and help to bring back memories of an era long gone.
