North America’s first location of Paris’s Centre Pompidou will be coming to Jersey City.
The Centre Pompidou X Jersey City Museum will be in the historic Pathside Building. Steven Fulop, mayor of Jersey City, said this partnership between the city and the museum will put it in the same bracket as the likes of Shanghai, Brussels, and Malaga that have similar relationships with the museum. It will also help to emphasize the city as a center for the arts.
The Pathside Building, which is over a century old and is located in Journal Square, will be converted into the first North American satellite of the Museum. The Museum will have access to the Pompidou’s many experts and its collection of close to 120,000 pieces of artwork. The space will also provide opportunities for cultural events and for the support of local artists. Poster printing can be used to promote such displays and other events once such spaces become operational.
With its location in the heart of Journal Square, the Museum will become a leading international cultural hub. It will attract visitors from all over the region and become a dynamic destination for residents to reflect the diversity and energy of the arts community in Jersey City.
It is expected that the Museum will be open in 2024.
