Hohokus plans park improvement
The Borough of Hohokus is looking to Bergen County for grant money that will give a much-needed facelift to the park abutting the Hohokus Brook on Franklin Turnpike.
Don Cirulli, the Borough Administrator, recently walked through the property with other officials from the Borough and they have come up with a plan for the park, often referred to as Zabriskie Park as there are remnants of the former Zabriskie Dam in the area.
There are some benches and picnic tables in the park, which is along a brook that is a tributary of the Saddle River. For the most part, the park is unkempt, causing safety concerns for those in the area.
The cost of the project is expected to be $42,000; the Borough will contribute half that amount plus an additional $9,000 for soft costs. The plan is to remove debris and clean up vegetation in the lower section of the park and replace damaged stones at the bottom of the dam.
In the area of the picnic tables, debris would be removed and picnic tables and benches would be replaced. Overall, trees would be trimmed to eliminate safety hazards and landscaping would be upgraded, with a new, extended walkway built in the upper area of the park.
Most likely, the Borough is turning to many printing services to inform the public about the plans for the park and be educated about the Zambriskie Dam.
