What's Happening in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ…

Hohokus to gain experience tapping trees

Tapping maple trees to harvest their sap was first practiced by the indigenous people of North America, and a Hohokus activity will introduce these techniques to today’s residents.

The Hermitage will be holding an outdoor workshop that will explore how sugar maple trees are tapped and spigots are used so their sap can be collected and boiled down. There are three different start times available, and the registration fee per family is $35.

Attendees in the sessions will be tapping 15 trees, and everyone will go home with a kit of tubing as well as a tap and other materials so they can try their hand at harvesting maple sap in their own backyard. As the activity will be held outside, warm clothing is highly recommended, and at the end of the workshop, they can warm up with some cookies and hot chocolate served in the Hermitage.

A hands-on activity gives the public an entertaining opportunity to learn where their food comes from. A flyer printing company can prepare copies of informational handouts, as well as marketing materials for an event.

The Hermitage at 335 North Franklin Turnpike will be offering its Maple Sugaring sessions on Saturday, February 15. They will start at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm, and tickets may be purchased through the venue’s web listings.
