New Jersey theater selects Fair Lawn student for prestigious program

A student from Fair Lawn, Trevor Braun, recently participated in the Summer Musical Theatre Conservatory for 2016.

The even is presented by Paper Mill Playhouse, a nonprofit theater based in Millburn, New Jersey. The professional artistic staff of the Paper Mill Playhouse directed the students who earned spots in the competition in the three companies: Junior (which is for students between the ages of 10 and 12), Junior Plus (for students between 13 and 14 years old), and Senior (for students between the ages of 15 and 18).

These students performed in an original concert called ‘New Voices of 2016: Everything Old Is New Again!’, on the main stage of the Playhouse, along with nominees and winners of the Paper Mill Playhouse Rising Star Awards for 2016.

According to the theater, the students participated in a five-week program, where there were intensive classes in dance, improvisation, acting, and performing in musical theater productions. Professional actors, directors, and casting agents also led special guest workshops.

According to the director of education for the Playhouse, Lisa Cooney, the work ethic and the skills they learn during the program will help them in any field, but it would be particularly gratifying if they became known in Hollywood or on Broadway.

The Playhouse may have turned to a local printing company to promote the show itself and the program that led to its production.
