Westfield family celebrates kindness

Sara Liptack and her daughter, Lyra, who is almost four, have a big goal for the summer of 2018.

They aim to participate in an act of kindness every day. Their acts are taking several Forms, from removing litter and trash from the beach, to arranging clothing drives.

Currently, the Westfield-based mom and daughter are collecting clothing for babies and infants for Furniture Assist. Located in Springfield, the organization provides aid to veterans, fire victims, the formerly homeless, refugees, people fleeing domestic violence, and the elderly.

Liptack asked the organization which items they needed the most and the reply she got was clothing for babies from birth to one-year-old. There is such a high demand for infants' clothing that Furniture Assist simply never has enough of it.

Organizations that collect donations can use flyer printing to let people know what their greatest needs are, and to provide donation instructions.

Those who want to donate to Liptack's ‘Summer of Kindness’ clothing drive can drop off donations at the family's door at 710 East Broad street in Westfield. Liptack will be taking donations through until this Thursday, July 19.

Other projects that Liptack and her daughter have carried out this summer include installing a Little Free Library outside of their house and collecting purses and personal care items for something they called the ‘Purse Project’. The purses were donated to a local shelter.
