Families of those living with mental illness may face a tough journey, and a Clark area program will provide them with tools and other support.
The National Alliance in Mental Illness (NAMI) has a chapter in Union County, and it will be running its Family to Family workshop series in Scotch Plains. Each instalment will be hosted in person, and both registration and materials will be free of charge.
The learning opportunity is intended for parents, spouses/partners, siblings, and older/adult children of those living with mental illness. Running for eight weeks, it will cover mental illness such as schizophrenia, clinical depression, bipolar disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), along with how they are treated. Tips for coping with them will be shared, as will some of the latest research in the field. Attendance is limited, so those interested may want to register well in advance.
A workshop provides an opportunity to both learn and meet others who also share an interest in a particular subject. Copies of learning materials can be prepared by area printing services companies.
NAMI’s Union County Chapter’s Family to Family workshop series will kick off on Thursday, October 9, running from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm. The exact venue in Scotch Plains will be released to the attendees at a later date, and the contact phone number is 908-377-4886.
