As with physical health, recovery from mental illness can be a process that involves the entire family, and a Clark area activity will offer support and understanding.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness’s (NAMI) Union County Chapter has scheduled an installment of its Family to Family Education Course, and it will begin in early October. Sessions will take place once each week for eight weeks, and there's no fee being charged.
The parents, spouses/partners, siblings and children of those living with mental illness who attend the workshops will learn about various conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and major depressive disorder. They will be taught about the treatment that may be offered, and how they can be an effective caregiver while their loved one heals. Advances in research and medication will be discussed, and as only a limited number of spaces are available, anyone interested will need to sign up well ahead of time.
A workshop, class or other learning session may require Copies of handouts as well as oversized materials such as maps, diagrams and Posters. A printing services company will be happy to help.
This opportunity for the families of those living with a severe mental illness to connect, learn and support one another will begin on October 9th. The location in Scotch Plains will be released soon.
