Westfield classes to focus on reading skills

A summer learning program is being offered to families in Westfield and the communities that surround it, with two different start dates available to parents.

The Speech and Hearing Association has prepared this series of classes, which will follow the Orton-Gillingham approach. There will be several attendance options, and any families that would like to attend virtually will be able to do so.

The children will be divided into groups according to their reading skill levels and ages. The younger attendees will focus on the basics of printed language and phonological awareness, and comprehension will be emphasized. The older participants will focus on a variety areas to strengthen their skills. The instructor for the classes will be Meaghan Sica, and the in-person sessions will be held at 225 Bridge Street in Metuchen on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, running for four weeks each.

Children in these sorts of workshops often benefit from visual learning materialism, these can be custom designed for the occasion by a printing services company. Its graphic design staff may also be called upon to prepare graduation certificates to give to each of the learners to recognize their accomplishments.

Parents who are interested in signing their child up for these courses can do so now, and their start dates are June 28 and August 2. Speech and Hearing Associates can be contacted through its website for more details.
