Westfield adds more options for recycling

Residents of Westfield now have a few more options when it comes to getting rid of items they no longer need or want.

The town recently introduced a few new opportunities for recycling and reuse at its conservation center. Town residents and residents of Union County will be able to drop offer a variety of items for recycling, with no permit needed. Recycling drop-off is available for free.

Towns that are updating their recycling options can use printing services to let residents know of the changes and what items they are able to drop off.

Among the new items that Westfield residents can drop off include all types of Styrofoam, usually labeled with a #6 recycling symbol. The Styrofoam needs to be clean of any food and drink, as well as labels and Tape. Also accepted are household batteries, fluorescent lightbulbs (including tubes, U-shaped and circular), plastic Bags, and plastic wrap.

The conservation center will also be accepting plastic toys that are still in working order and have all their parts. The town has partnered with Second Chance Toys, which cleans up donated toys and gives them to organizations that help children in need. The organization does not accept toys that are small enough to fit into a toilet paper roll.

The conservation center is on Lamberts Mill and is open Thursdays through Sunday. From October 22 until December 15, the center will be open seven days a week.
