Knowing what to do in an emergency can save a companion animal’s life, and the attendees in a Clark area event should walk away confident in their ability to provide first aid to their furry friend.
A pet CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and first aid course has been arranged by the Mt. Pleasant Animal Shelter, and the proceeds will be donated to the organization. It will take place in East Hanover’s Tom Rinaldi Recreation Center, and is open to anyone interested.
The session will be taught by an instructor with 30 years of experience, and the training will be interactive. Skills such as emergency restraint and muzzling, bleeding control, shock management, and assessing viral Signs will be taught, and both dogs and cats will be covered. Medical and environmental emergencies will both be discussed. The fee to sign up for the workshop is $60 per person.
The class is set to teach the fundamentals, and everyone will receive an emergency muzzle as well as a certificate of completion and handbook so they can continue to learn. Educational materials for an activity can be prepared by local Print shops.
This chance for Clark’s pet parents to learn how to care for their animal in an emergency is scheduled for Sunday, February 18. Those interested can choose from a 10:00 am or 1:30 pm start time.
