Potential for new hospital in Youngsville area

UNC Health Rex is looking to build a new hospital in the community of Wake Forest, which would be of great benefit to residents of Youngsville and neighboring communities.

Two certificate-of-need applications have been filed by the health system. The first one plans to add two operating rooms and 20 beds for acute care at its main campus in Raleigh while the second one plans to build a community hospital with 50 beds in Wake Forest. The hospital in Wake Forest would be built on about 50 acres of land at the corner of Stadium Drive and Capital Boulevard behind a shopping center. The new hospital is expected to employ over 500 people.

Interim president of UNC Health Rex, Kristen Riggs, said that these proposals will enable the healthcare system to meet the growing needs in the community and alleviate the current constraints on its capacity. Riggs said that it is important for the healthcare system to be able to provide acre for the growing and aging population that will be closer to home.

Local Print shops can help spread the word about such proposed projects and their benefits for the community with Flyers and other printed materials.

The office that oversees the North Carolina Certificate of Need Program needs to approve the two proposals. There will be a public hearing in Raleigh on Friday October 18 at 9:30 a.m. at the McKimmon Conference and Training Center.
