Monroe to adopt wild horses and burros

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will conduct a wild burro and horse adoption event in Monroe this August.

Since the inception of its adoption program in 1971, the BLM has put more than 300,000 burros and wild horses into private homes. This event will offer members of the public the opportunity to adopt one of approximately 130 animals assembled from western areas.

The placement event is expected to feature roughly 100 horses and 30 burros. BLM workers will be present to give information, answer questions, and provide adoption help. Interested adopters must meet eligibility requirements, including being 18 years of age or older with no animal cruelty record. They must also have adequate facilities and transportation. Corrals must meet minimum square footage and height requirements, and trailers have to be stock-type with solid construction and swing gates.

Admission is free. For more information, attendees can contact Hunter Paffrath at hpaffrath@blm.gov or call (769) 366-4821. Full adoption program details are available through the BLM listing.

When hosting an adoption event such as this one, organizers may opt to use Print shops to provide interested buyers with information on the different horses and burros for sale.

The event will be held at the Simpson Event Center, 307 Cultivation Cr, Monroe, North Carolina. The dates and times are August 14th and 15th from 8 am to 4:30 pm, and August 16th from 8 am to noon.
