“Gangstagrass” will be performing at a local venue in Monroe this March.
The hip hop group fuses bluegrass instrumentation with hip-hop lyricism in a performance that, according to critics, challenges traditional genre boundaries. The collective blends banjo, fiddle, and rap to form a sound that unites urban and rural influences.
Formed by producer and songwriter Rench, the group first gained attention with their Emmy-nominated song for FX’s Justified. Since then, they have built a reputation for dynamic live performances, touring throughout North America and Europe.
Their 2020 album, No Time for Enemies, reached number 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass chart, marking the first instance that hip-hop artists achieved that ranking in that genre.
Gangstagrass has continued to gain national recognition, with appearances on The Caverns Sessions on PBS and America’s Got Talent. They have also been featured in The New York Times, which described their music as a “unifying force that bridges cultural divides.”
Tickets are priced at $20 for both orchestra and mezzanine seating. Interested individuals can visit the official event listing to purchase tickets and receive more information.
Organizers may use brochure printing to provide attendees with information about bands such as this one.
Gangstagrass will perform on Friday, March 14 at 8 pm at the Dowd Center Theater, which can be found at 120 South Main St in Monroe. Attendees will be able to enter the event starting at 7 pm.
