Jay Hagen, a seasoned fire service professional, has been appointed as the new Fire Chief of the Fire Department in Kalispell. Hagen has been the Fire Chief of the Fire Department in Bellevue, Washington since 2018.

Chief Hagen started his career 30 years ago with the City of Missoula Fire Department. He has served in a wide range of positions from fire prevention to operations, training, and high-level management and brings extensive education and a wealth of knowledge to this new role. He has received the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, and the Distinguished Service Award for 2024 from the Fire Chief’s Association of King County.
Retiring from the department is Fire Chief Dan Pearce. Chief Pearce and his leadership team helped to pass the emergency responder levy for 2024, and address staffing and operational recommendations made by the Center for Public Safety Management. The city has faith that Chief Hagen will be able to keep the commitment to excellence in Emergency Medical and Fire Response that has been established by the department.
Chief Hagen expressed his excitement about returning to western Montana and joining the team at Kalispell. Chief Hagen will begin his position on Monday May 5.
