Next month’s Montana Fair in Billings is the largest annual event in the area and attracts as many as 250,000 people over nine days of activities.

The popular fair has been a celebration of agriculture and education for more than a century.

The summer tradition began in 1916 when residents of communities in Montana and northern Wyoming gathered for the Midland Empire Fair. Trains were used as the means of transportation from home to the fairgrounds where exhibitors competed for blue ribbon awards and mingled with residents of neighboring communities. After about 60 years, the fair was rebranded as the Yellowstone Exhibition, which continued for 14 years until it became the Montana Fair.

Throughout the fair’s history, it has continued to feature livestock displays and competitions, midway rides, family activities, food and entertainment.

Signature events this year will include the PRCA Pro Rodeo, a large carnival with games, rides and other attractions, as well as live music, comedians and children's performers. Attendees can enjoy classic fair food such as corn dogs, lemonade and sweet treats as well as a beer garden.

Organizers of large community fairs such as this often use printing services to create their advertising and promotional materials.

The Montana Fair will be held in Billings from August 7 to 15, 2026, at the Montana Entertainment Trade and Recreation Arena, known as Metra Park. A full schedule of events is available on the fair website.
