St. Louis shows true colors with 5K

On September 14, the Color Run, sometimes called the Happiest 5k on the Planet, raced through St. Louis, close to St. Ann, Missouri.

The for-profit charity run was to benefit Food Outreach, and the St. Louis Chapter of Autism Speaks. What differentiates the Color Run from other 5K events in the United States is that all participants in the race dress in white. As they run the course, they are doused in powders in different colors at each kilometer. For example, the 1K is yellow and the 2K is orange.

The St. Louis race began at 8:00 am, with waves starting the run every few minutes; the last wave started at 9:00 am. The starting line was organized as a pre-party, with warmup stretching, dancing, music, and giveaways.

Many local businesses use marathons as volunteer opportunities within their communities. Sponsoring a water table or a color station may make it possible for a company to get poster printing or banner printing along the race course.

The Color Run, LLC, is different from other race events in that it is a for-profit event management company that works with local charities in the places where races occur. It raises awareness, rather than direct donations, though it often embeds donations in its partnerships with local charities. For more information on Color Runs, and if one will be held in a nearby community, visit the LLC’s website.
