St. Ann teens ready to blast off
The Rock Road branch of the St. Louis County Library is looking to inspire a future generation of aeronautical engineers with their Teen Space Race. The event brings local youth together for fun and education.
The core of the event is the building of the rockets; participants will be able to select a rocket and put it together themselves. They will also be provided with spray paint and other craft supplies so they can decorate their projectile. After that, the teens will take turns putting an engine in their masterpiece, putting it on a launch pad, and sending it into the stratosphere. Parachutes are included, so every work should remain intact to take home after the event.
The event is part of the St. Louis County Library’s Teen Tech Month. The series has brought a wide variety of science, engineering, and technology related projects to the various branches in the county. Previous programs have included hands-on work with robotics, stop-motion animation, and LED creation. As with previous events, registration is required.
The Teen Space Race will be held on March 30 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Road branch of the St. Louis County Library, located at 10267 Street Charles Rock Road in St. Ann. The cost is free, but registration is only available for youths aged 12 to 18. Anyone interested in signing up can find registration brochures at the library or on the website.
