St. Ann seniors take a stroll through the park

The St. Ann Golden Club is putting the finishing touches on its latest event.

The group’s Picnic in the Park combines entertainment, food, and nature for a day out aimed at seniors in the community.

Lunch is provided at the picnic, and includes a hamburger, baked beans, potato salad, a ‘patriotic’ dessert, and lemonade. Plenty of tables will be set up for the picnic, though this does not preclude attendees bringing their own lawn chairs and finding their own grassy corner to eat at.

During the picnic, a strolling magician will wander through the park, performing small feats of wonderment for visitors. Additionally, some equipment will be set up to play music for the event.

The picnic is sponsored by the St. Ann Golden Club, a social club run through the local Parks and Recreation Department. Members meet regularly at the local community center, and provide a meal and information meant to improve the lives of local seniors. A big facet of their work in the community is their newsletter printing: the Senior Scoop, providing informative, occasionally funny articles and a list of activities and trips for local seniors. The latest issue will be available at the picnic.

The Picnic in the Park will take place on May 25, starting at 11:00 am at Pavillion 4 of Tiemeyer Park. Cost for the picnic is $8, and can be purchased in advance or at the park the day of the event. Anyone interested in more information should contact the Golden Club directly.
