A satellite court for St. Louis County is now opened in St. Ann at The Crossings. It is hoped that this court will improve access to the system of justice.
There are public computer kiosks at the satellite court that are connected to the main courthouse of the county in Clayton. People using the kiosks employ video conferencing technology to participate in courtroom proceedings.
Among the types of issues that will covered in the satellite court will be small claims disputes, family court proceedings, landlord-tenant mediations, name changes, and associate criminal matters. The St. Ann location will also be able to be used for filing documents for those who wish to representative themselves in St. Louis County Circuit Court. Orders of protection can also be filed in person at the satellite court for those who are victims of domestic violence. Residents often appreciate the use of flyer printing to inform them of such locations and the services they offer.
Office space at The Crossings was remodeled by St. Louis County for this satellite court. The county uses funding from the CARES Act in the amount of $130,000.
Michael Burton, Circuit Court Judge, said that many people in the northern part of the county have transportation issues getting to the main office in Clayton so opening a satellite office in the area made a lot of sense.
