St. Ann library joins in local free meals and books program
The libraries of St. Louis County are currently providing free books to families participating in a drive-through meal service.
The books are new and designed for three age groups of kids. One book is for teenage readers, another is for readers of elementary school age, and the third is for those in pre-kindergarten. The books do not need to be returned to the library.
Among the libraries taking part in this program is the Rock Road Branch in St. Ann. Such libraries often use many printing services to inform residents of such special programs.
Kristen Sorth, director of the St. Louis County Library (SLCL) system, expressed her thrill in being able to provide these books at this time. She added that the library has been working with several partners to make this program possible. Among the agencies in the area that donated these books are Missouri Humanities and Ready Readers, the Gateway Regional YMCA, The Opportunity Trust, and the St. Louis County Library Foundation.
The Rock Road branch of the SLCL was converted into a library from a movie theater in 1957 and was renovated and expanded in 2016. It specializes in serving the growing Hispanic community in the area.
The drive-through meals program is available on Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 am until noon, during which the books will be distributed.
