St. Ann library back after $3.2m overhaul

The St. Louis County Library’s Rock Road Branch reopened last month following its extensive renovation.

The library, which in some respects formerly resembled a bunker, now has a modern, brightly colored appearance. The renovations cost $3.2m and added two full-sized, rooms as well as a smaller third room. According to library director Kristen Sorth, the Rock Road Branch now has rooms for quiet study, meeting spaces, and lots of computers to attract kids.

Libraries serve their communities in a variety of ways, including providing a wide range of informative Brochures and a place for organizations to post Flyers and Posters announcing community events. Moreover, a community library benefits all ages.

Sorth explained that the children’s section of the Rock Road Branch now has browsing bins. These are full of Books and are the perfect height for small children to look into and select their choice of books. The bins eliminate the need for moving books on and off of shelves, which can be difficult for small bodies to accomplish.

The St. Ann renovation was funded by Proposition L, and was the sixth of eleven renovations included in its phase one, which should be completed this year. At the end of 2016, phase two will start the renovation of the last eight branches that have been included in county’s plans.
