St. Ann adults to spend the evening coloring

Residents in St. Ann are getting out the crayons and colored pencils in anticipation of Color Yourself Calm. The adult-oriented event focuses on the positive health benefits of a long left-behind childhood hobby: coloring.

The activity is part of a recent trend in adult coloring that has spread all over the world. Companies such as Crayola have even come out with special Brochures, Booklets, and crayons all centered on coloring as an adult activity. Groups like Johns Hopkins and the American Art Therapy Association have praised the practice, citing its calming and meditative effects on the human brain.

Though participants can take their own Books and supplies if they wish, it is not necessary. Coloring sheets and colored pencils will be provided free of charge. Attendees will then be given free rein over the images, adding whatever colors and textures they choose. It is encouraged to let the mind wander and de-stress during this time instead of trying to create a ‘complete’ work of art. Light refreshments will also be provided.

Color Yourself Calm will be held on January 9 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Rock Road Branch Library, located at 10267 St. Charles Rock Rd. Attendance is free, but space is limited, so pre-registration is required. Anyone interested in more info should contact the library directly.
