St. Ann, Missouri, is a relatively young community, dating back officially to April, 1948, when it was incorporated. However, it had come into being about six years earlier, when developer Charles F. Vatterott built a housing project to provide homes for people working in defense plants nearby. When the war was over, the community wasn't abandoned, as many such housing projects were; instead it began to grow and transformed into one of St. Louis’s suburbs.
