The St. Charles County Veterans Museum has recently opened in O’Fallon.

Many from neighboring St. Ann will no doubt want to see its collections of military artifacts and uniforms, pictures, paintings, and unique displays, which were all supplied by veterans and their families.

Treasurer of the museum, Renee Essayer, said exhibits start with the War of 1812 and include the wars in Afghanistan and the Persian Gulf. Print shops can be hired to create Brochures and Flyers with more information about such museums to draw interest from people.

Veteran Ralph Baralli came up with the idea for the museum as he felt this would be a good way to honor veterans and, at the same time, demonstrate who they were and are to this day.

Essayer said that people were giving these war items to Goodwill or throwing them away, and Baralli thought that having a museum to house them would be a good alternative. Baralli passed away before the museum was completed, but some of his belongings are on exhibit.

An old city building was taken over by the museum, which pays the city a dollar a year to lease it. Most of it was torn down and volunteers helped to rebuild it. Local businesses donated floor, lighting, ceiling, and roofing materials.

Monetary donations and volunteer help will keep the museum running.
