An apartment complex at the southwest corner of the intersection of Antioch Road and 135th Street has been approved by the Overland Park City Council.
Residents of nearby St. Ann looking for a new residence may be interested in this complex once it is completed.
The project near the Blue Valley Sports Complex and will be built by Ryan Companies based in Minnesota. Other establishments near the project include a Stroud’s restaurant, a movie theatre, and other retail businesses. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform those in the area of such upcoming projects.
This project has been revised from an earlier proposal submitted in August and will now reduce the height of the buildings in the complex from five to four stories. The total number of apartments will also decrease from an original number of 446 units to 413 units, but total number of parking spaces will rise from 602 to 707.
Kip Strauss, planning commissioner, said that the number of apartment units in this revised project is appropriate when compared with other developments in the neighborhood. Strauss added that 135th Street is a dense east-west corridor. The fact that it is developed, and is situated close to the US 69 corridor on which improvements are being made over the next few years, justifies this number of apartment units in the area.
