Gioia’s Deli in Creve Coeur, known for its roast beef, hot salami, and other sandwiches, is now offering a grocery store staple—frozen pizza.

The shop had been collaborating with Dogtown Pizza, a company in St. Louis that produces frozen pizza for purchase in grocery stores. This partnership had been so successful for Gioia’s that the shop decided to try making its own pizza in-house.

Alex Donley, owner of the shop, said this had been a work-in-progress for about three months, but became accelerated with the current pandemic. People can order these pizzas online for pickup at the store. Residents of St. Ann will want to take advantage of this new item and patronize the shop once they learn about such offerings through flyer printing and other printing services.

Donley said that the creation of these frozen pizzas has been able to save his business.

Another restaurant which has latched on to the idea of offering frozen pizza is Katie’s Pizza & Pasta Osteria in Rock Hill. It offerings include several items from Salume Beddu, a local artisan, including porchetta fig and squash and pepperoni.

Katie’s is repurposing a space that had been planned for a make at home meal kit service called Vero. Owner Katie Collier admitted to stltoday.com that that project was not a success, but frozen pizza business has taken off, with Collier finding herself running three to five days behind orders.
