Free lunches offered to kids in St. Ann over the summer

This summer, lunches will be provided to children by Operation Food Search and the St. Louis County Library at nine locations of the library. For children who are 18 years of age and younger, the meals will be free of charge.

One of the nine locations is the Rock Road Branch in St. Ann. There will be nutritious lunches offered five days a week from noon until 1:00, along with various activities including crafts, board games, and story times. Operation Backpack will be on Thursdays where families in attendance will be provided with a bag of groceries for the weekend. Fridays will be a special treat as pizza will be served.

Poster printing can be used in key locations in the city, meaning children and families can become aware of such programs.

Director of the St. Louis County Library, Kristen Sorth, said that providing lunches to children over the summer serves two purposes – it reaches those who may be hungry, while also encouraging them to spend some time at the library and read.

The Summer Food Program of the United States Department of Agriculture coordinated by Operation Food Search provide the funds for the meals. Other supporters of the program include Nature’s Bakery, STL City Wide, the St. Louis County Library Foundation, and individual donors.
