The city of St. Louis will be spending over $26 million in funds from a federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to create affordable housing options, support social services, and improve the infrastructure in the city. These services and housing may be of interest to residents of nearby St. Ann looking to move into the city.
The St. Louis Housing Authority (SLHA) will bring 127 units of public housing that have not been in service made available for families. This is an investment of $2 million, which will go towards renovations that include new flooring, repair of drywall, new appliances and cabinets, replacement of plumbing and HVAC equipment, and new furnishings. It is estimated by the SLHA that the cost to renovate each unit will be between $10,000 and $20,000.
Brochure printing with more details about such features can be used to attract residents of nearby communities and those in the city to consider such housing.
Mayor Tishaura O. Jones said that these investments will create stable, safe, and affordable housing which will strengthen the communities of the city. He expressed his pride in working with local, state, and federal partners to drive investments of historic nature in housing in the city.
Additional uses of the CDBG funds will go towards repairs at recreation centers in the city; to over 20 non-profit organizations for such services as food outreach and youth and family services; and for health and human services.
