Redevelopment plans for the property that was once occupied by Shop ‘n Save recently received initial approval by the Kirkwood City Council.
The plans were created by Nolan Real Estate Interests LLC and include reuse of the grocery store, which is 122,000 square feet in size, for an enclosed self-storage facility that has a drive-through and is two stories high. A resident manager’s apartment would be added, while the first floor would accommodate 7,500 square feet of retail space. Residents from nearby St. Ann might want to take advantage of these facilities once they are opened.
There would also be a parking lot on the back end of the property for the storage of the inventory of overflow used and new cars of the Audi Kirkwood auto dealership, and the construction of a retail building measuring 12,000 square feet housing multiple tenants as well. This would also include a restaurant with a drive-through on the side of the property facing the street. Banner printing can be used on such properties, once they are finally approved, to create displays that can keep those in the neighborhood abreast of their progress.
Mayor Tim Griffin expressed his support of the plan, as market research suggests it will be a viable option. The developer has also agreed to make a payment to city instead of paying taxes, which the mayor finds appealing and believes should be made part of the plan.
