A St. Louis-based academic competition with a focus on foreign affairs will switch to a virtual format for its 19th annual edition.
Academic WorldQuest is the youth education program of the World Affairs Councils of America, a non-profit organization that aims to promote awareness and information about international relations. The regional version of the competition, hosted by the World Affairs Council of St. Louis, draws in participants and spectators from not just St. Louis and nearby areas like Olivette and Creve Coeur, but from across the state. This year’s competition will be hosted by St. Louis University and the Chaifetz School of Business.
The St. Louis regional event will involve four-person teams from high schools across the metropolitan area. Students will answer multiple-choice questions in 10 categories, all having to do with foreign affairs and international relations. The competition will be hosted by Rachel Lippman, a reporter from St. Louis Public Radio. Competitions like this, often promoted through tools like banner printing, can help students burnish their academic skills and meet like-minded youths. The three best teams will move on to the national WorldQuest competition hosted by 50 local Councils across the US. Past competitions have seen almost 5,000 students participate.
The St. Louis Academic WorldQuest competition will take place on February 25, with the national championships occurring on April 17.
