New faculty welcomed for college program

A new series of special projects aimed at improving entrepreneurship studies at Columbia College recently introduced its four core faculty members.

Together, the four submitted a proposal for an on-campus student marketing agency, a business proposal workshop, and an internal review of how the college can better convey entrepreneurial ideas to students in the future.

Selected by Columbia’s Steve and Barbara Fishman Center for Entrepreneurship, two-year appointments were handed out to the Art Department’s Danielle Langdon, the Business Department’s Brandi Herrman, Crystal Lake, Illinois Campus fellow George Thompson and St. Louis Campus professor Jamie Currier.

According to Entrepreneurship Director Raja Bhattacharya, the idea behind awarding fellowship to the faculty is to incorporate more “applied learning” to the curriculum.

Students from a variety of backgrounds are already showing interest in the program, and are especially excited about the chance to get real world experience by contributing to the on-campus marketing agency.

Herrman said:

“This is going to fill a need for students both in entrepreneurship as well as our design, public relations and marketing students. Why not give them the opportunity to work together and really collaborate?”

Partnerships are already being sought out among local Print companies and small businesses looking to invest in student-led marketing efforts. This all comes hot on the heels of the college’s hiring of three new deans as part of its ongoing administrative revamp for 2016.
