Chesterfield celebrates parks' anniversary with history lecture series
Chesterfield's St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department will be presenting the Parks 75th Lecture series during June in recognition of its 75th anniversary.
Each of the four presentations will cover either the parks' significance or a unique aspect of their history.
On June 4, County Historian, Guinn Hinman will begin the series with a discussion called History at/of St. Louis County Parks.
Parks Educator Jeffery Edison will present From Rivers to Wealth, First American Military Access to the West. Taking place on June 11, this will be a talk about the history of Fort Belle Fontaine including one of its early commanders, Daniel Bissell, and his role in establishing Franklinville Farm.
Cultural Site Manager Jesse Francis will talk about Frederick Bates the State Builder on June 18, and Cultural Site Manager Thomas Hoff will end the series on June 25 with a lecture on Jefferson Barracks: The Key to All Points West. He will discuss the historical and military significance of Jefferson Barracks.
Many history buffs like to get the word out about events like this by arranging flyer printing at local print shops and placing flyers around their neighborhoods and workplaces.
All lectures will be one hour long and begin at 6:00 pm on Wednesday evenings at the Wedding Site at Faust Park's St. Louis Carousel, 15185 Olive Boulevard. Admission will be $5, and reservations may be made at the Saint Louis County Parks and Recreation website.
