Princeton residents can expect to see their county’s buildings bathed in green lights for six weeks prior to Veterans Day, as Mille Lacs County takes part in the nationwide Operation Green Light for Veterans.
This will make the third year of the Operation Green Light, which is a nationwide movement among the country’s counties to unite in their efforts to support military veterans. The initiative, led in part by The National Association of Counties (NACo), is to raise awareness of the challenges our country’s veterans face and the available resources for them at the federal, state and county levels.
Exactly how counties choose to participate varies to some degree, with some turning green lights onto bridges, illuminating county buildings, and lighting individual landmarks. Some businesses and even residents can get in on the event with the addition of a green light, either outside or inside their established. The green light is to show veterans that they have not been forgotten but are remembered, appreciated, and supported.

An estimated 2,057 veterans currently reside in Mille Lacs County. Participation in Operation Green Light for Veterans, which is currently running and will continue on through November 12, 2023, not only honors our county’s veterans, but underpins the sense of community and civic pride of all who live here.
