One of Princeton’s primary arteries is having work done on its bridges during the coming year.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has announced that another round of construction will take place in 2025 on the city’s busiest thoroughfare, Highway 169. Specifically, the bridges along the highway will undergo resurfacing beginning in spring and continuing through late fall.

The bridges in question include West Branch Rum River, County Road 31/First Street, South Rum River Drive and Rum River Drive.

According to MnDOT the work will include eight bridges to be resurfaced, four in each direction, with the work taking place from Baxter Road to 313th Avenue on Highway 169 in south Princeton. Other repair and replacement work will include, catch basins, concrete joints, approach panels, and guard rails.

Restaurants, doctor’s offices and other establishments often turn to printing services during road construction to have maps printed to help their clientele with detours.

While the bridge work is underway, travelers will experience delays with reduced speeds, single-lane traffic, lane shifts, head-to-head traffic 24/7 and access changes. Drivers MnDOT suggests that drivers look into alternative route when possible.

The project is expected to cost $7.9 million and although it will be an inconvenience while underway, once it's done travelers can expect to enjoy smoother surfaces on bridges. Other benefits would include an extended lifespan and improved drainage for the structures.
