Describing themselves as comparable to performers from New Orleans, Dirty Shorts Brass Band plays everything from Dixie to jazz, from funk to blues, from rock ’n’ roll and swing to gospel.
The concert series is taking place each Tuesday night, from 7pm - 8:30pm at the Historic Depot, through July 15th. Each event will be advertised with poster printing.
June 24th will feature the Everett Smithson Band, which plays both standard tracks with a unique flavor, as well as many original songs. The band strives to place a focus on French Quarter and New Orleans music. Further, the group will also give 15 kids a harmonica and lesson free of charge.
Residents can celebrate the 4th of July early with a Celtic-themed band, and Elizabeth Keeney – a local artist – will take the stage on July 8th. The final performance of the season will be from Chmielewski.
The opening event led to a number of happy posts on Twitter. The account of the Indiana University Office of International Services tweeted:
“Love grabbing lunch downtown & enjoying free live music in the park on Tuesdays!”
All of the music events at Tuesdays in the Park are free to the public and family friendly.
