Housing study shows additional units needed in Princeton area

A recently completed 245-page study revealed that the housing demand through 2030 is projected to require an additional 5,200 new housing units throughout Sherburne County.

The study’s results could incentivize a building boom within the county that will have a positive effect on the Princeton business community, with the largest and first benefits being realized by the construction industry.

Construction sites often require a variety of signage including those supplied by banner printing services.

Specifics of the study show a projected demand over the next five years of more than 2,000 age-restricted housing units for seniors, as well as almost 3,000 non-restrictive housing units. These numbers reflect both a projected increase in population of about 10 percent from its 2020 census total of 97,183 by 2030, and the assumed changes in composition of the population in Sherburne County by age.

The “Comprehensive Housing Needs Analysis for Sherburne County”, as the study’s report is titled, broke down the number of senior units into those of active adults (1,495) and those designated “service-enhanced” (710), which include primarily independent living, along with some memory care and assisted living. About two-thirds of the remaining 2,995 unrestrictive housing units will be made up of single- family and multi-family homes, and the final third being made up of rental housing.
