Residents in Zimmerman, and nearby Princeton, can take part in a special race that involves man’s best friend next month.
The Glen Bye Foundation is hosting the 5th Annual Bubba 5K and 5K-9 run and walk. The foundation was set up in memory of Glen ‘Bubba’ Bye and aims to support high school sports, find scholarship opportunities, and help those dealing with hardship or loss.
The 5K-9 race allows participants and their leashed canines to enjoy a run or walk together. Owners are asked to make sure to clean up after their dogs.
After the race, participants will be treated to fruit and water. Prizes will be awarded to the top female and male finishers and also the first boy and girl finishers of under 12 years of age.
Registration costs $30. After March 15, T-Shirts are not guaranteed with registration. Additional shirts cost $15 and online donations can also be made. The event’s proceeds will benefit the Glen Bye Foundation and the Zimmerman High School Baseball team. No doubt the event organizers used a flyer printing service to create handouts to promote the race.
Registration begins at 8:00 am on April 11. Even in the event of rain, the 5K will kick off at 9:00 am and the 5K-9 will begin right after. The races will take place at Zimmerman High School, located at 25900 West 4th Street.
