As of today, Eric Nelson will be the new principal at Irondale High School in New Brighton, taking over from Principal Scott Gengler, who will be moving to Wayzata High School to oversee its upcoming expansion.
Nelson started his career in education as a high school social studies teacher in the mid-1990s at Henry Sibley High School and then became an assistant principal and dean of students at Edina High School, where he stayed for 12 years. Speaking to BeachCarolina.com, he commented that he has always made it his goal to move to the position of a principal, but this had only become a real possibility fairly recently.
Bruce Locklear, principal at Edina High School, said that Nelson is a student-centered educator who advocated for the arts as an important part of education while he was assistant principal. He added that although Nelson will be missed, this is a good opportunity for him.
According to Mounds View Public Schools Superintendent Dan Hoverman, Nelson was selected as his experience showed that he was committed to ensuring that all students can be successful in school, and his unique qualifications will enable him to lead Irondale High School.
Most likely, flyer printing is being used to inform the students, parents, and the rest of the community about Nelson’ appointment and to generate enthusiasm for his first day as the new principal.
