New Brighton summer brings chalk festival and free concerts

New Brighton Lions are sponsoring free concerts every other Thursday, and artists are welcome to participate in the city’s 2023 Chalk Walk Festival.

The summer concert series has already started with Katy Vernon singing folk and pop on May 11. Heart & Soul Drum Academy will take over the stage on June 8. They will share the spotlight with Indigenous Roots to celebrate Juneteenth. On July 13, Matt Yetter will be performing Americana music, and August 10, rock covers will be played by The Tuxedo Band. Trevor McSpadden & Mary Cutrufello will close the season on September 1.

Summer Concert Series is being held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Veterans Park, 803 Old Highway 8.

This year’s theme for the 2023 Chalk Walk Festival will be “The Future is Bright,” and each artist will be given 12 feet of the park’s path to produce their chalk masterpieces. Spectators will vote for their favorite entries.

Artists will create their drawings on June 23, and the public will be invited to view the works on the June 24 and 25.

Artists who want to remember temporary works such as those made during this festival often take pictures of their work and have local Print shops make duplicates for portfolios, friends, and relatives.

The 2023 Chalk Walk Festival will be free and take place at the Veteran’s Park Gazebo from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
