New Brighton goes to fairgrounds for winter fun

Those who enjoyed the Minnesota Ice Castles here in New Brighton a couple of years ago, and those wishing to return to this year's Minnesota Merry Market, will be going to the state fairgrounds this year.

More than 80 vendors are expected at the Minnesota Merry Market State Fair. Some items to look for will be jewelry, ceramics, jams, and candles.

The $5 admission will include visits with Santa, train rides, kids' crafts, horse and carriage rides, and ice games. Food trucks will be onsite selling holiday treats. Vendors at holiday events like this often have custom Business Cards made.

The Minnesota Merry Market will run December 14, 15, 21, and 22nfrom 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds, 1750 Randall Avenue, Falcon Heights.

Each castle at the Minnesota Ice Castle event will be built using more than 20 million pounds of ice. Guests may race down ice slides, explore frozen mazes and ice caverns, and crawl through tunnels. The hand carved LED-lit ice sculptures will be constructed by international and local artists. A 20-person team will begin construction on one acre on the fairgrounds this month.

Tickets went on sale yesterday and the experience will take place between early January and early March 2025. The exact dates will be determined by the weather.
