New Brighton area celebrates fall and visual storytelling

The New Brighton area is invited to attend a fall festival and a Cranky Fest in September.

Crankie Fest 2023 will be a three-day event celebrating the art of “crankies,” a 19th Century story-telling technique, often also referred to as a moving backdrop or moving panorama.

There will be three nights of performances this Friday to Sunday, September 1 to 3, and a cranky-making workshop in Stewart Park for kids 5 to 11 years old. People who take the time to make this quaint stories may wish to take them to local Print shops to make duplicates.

Crankie Fest 2023 will take place at 2411 11 Avenue South, Minneapolis from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Right here in New Brighton, guests are invited to celebrate the fall season at St. John’s FallFest 2023.

This will be a three-day festival with inflatables, pig roast, adults, and kids’ games, and a silent disco with music performed by the Good the Bad and the Funky on the Friday.

Saturday’s line up will include bingo, a fun run, food trucks, car show, Bags tournament and fireworks. The band for the evening will be Shane Martin and the Belfast Cowboys. The Sunday will feature polka, purse bingo, traditional booya (a thick Belgian stew), inflatables, games, a football tailgate, and a grand raffle.

St. John’s FallFest 2023 will take place in the parking lot of St. John’s Baptist Catholic Church, 835 2nd Avenue NW on September 22, 23, and 24.
