Winter feted with two solstice events and dip in lake

In the coming days, the Minneapolis area will be hosting two events to celebrate the 2022 Winter Solstice, followed by a daring icy dip to see in the new year.

The first event, presented by Minneapolis’s FUS Seasonal Celebrations Team, includes a festive dinner with dessert, and will also have a Midwinter Revels program, a group folk dance, and a fire on the patio. This winter solstice celebration will be this Saturday, December 17 from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm at 900 Mt. Curve Avenue.

Starting at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21, the same venue’s Lower Assembly Hall will have wassail, desserts, and participatory drumming, while the Upper Assembly Hall will have the Midwinter Revels program. The Chalice Room will feature a labyrinth, and the patio will have a fire.

Not long after these events, Lululemon Mall of America will be holding a New Year’s Day Cold Dip & Sauna Party. From noon to 1:00 pm attendees will take part in a breathwork and movement exercise, and then take cold dips in Lake Harriet at North Beach.

From 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm, there will be an after-party with a sauna, food, and a live DJ, at Embrace North/Built to Breathe, 4420 Drew Ave S B.

People that take these polar plunges may take pictures to prove that they accomplished the feat. The photos often go to local Stationery printers to be included in family newsletters.
