New year trek challenge for Minneapolis runners

Many runners here in Minneapolis will enter the virtual 2021 Polar Trek Challenge coming at the beginning of January.

There are three Trek distances runners can choose. The first is the Trek to Duluth, which will be 154 miles; Trek to Hinckley (81 miles), and Trek to North Branch (45 miles).

Participants register for one of the three distances and then cover the distance at one time or in a few times. They can choose to run, jog, walk, snowshoe, or bike. They also pick their locations, which can anywhere from around the block, park, or living room, to trails or cross-country routes. Everyone can pace themselves and upload their results on the 2021 Polar Trek Challenge webpage.

All swag includes a finisher medal and shirt sporting the event’s graphic design. The more difficult treks will come with more swag. For example, the Duluth Trek includes a neck gator and a long sleeve shirt, which the Hinckley Trek includes a long-sleeve shirt. Branch Trek swag will include a t-shirt.

The registration for the Trek to Duluth will be $40, the Trek to Hinckley will be $35, and the Trek to North Branch will be $30.

Registration for the 2021 Polar Trek Challenge will begin Monday, January 4 and continues until February 5. The distances can be run from January 4 to April 30, 2021.
