Minneapolis’ Minnesota Orchestra will be live-streaming its May and June events this year.
One of Minnesota Orchestra’s five Friday night concerts on Classical Minnesota Public Radio will take place May 14th at 8:00 pm. The program will include Stravinsky’s Symphonies of Wind Instruments, Lancaster’s dis(armed), Penderecki’s Chaconne in Memory of John Paul II and Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony in B Minor. The conductor for the performance will be Osmo Vanska, and the guest host will be Brian Newhouse.
On Friday, May 28th, at 8:00 pm, the concert will be Remembrance and Reflection. The program will include Chamber Symphony by Shostakovich, Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 3, No. 1 by Saint-Georges, An Elegy: A Cry from the Grave by Simon, and Adagietto, from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. Sarah Hicks will be the host, Vanska will conduct, and Karen Gomyo will be the guest violinist.
Midsummer Melody, the orchestra’s annual Symphony Ball, will also be a virtual event. The host for the evening will be Sarah Hicks and the orchestra will be under the baton of Vanska. The gala will be streamed via YouTube on Saturday, June 5th at 6:30 pm. This is the major fundraiser for the orchestra.
Registration is required for ball, at which point the patrons will be given the link. Although the event will be free to view, individuals, families and arts-supporting businesses are invited to donate individually or through Corporate Gifts.
