Minneapolis to take a tour through art

Those living in Northeast Minneapolis may enjoy giving Art-A-Whirl a chance to get to know some of the artists and their work in the area during a three-day festival coming in mid-May.

Art-A-Whirl will be an open self-directed studio tour of over 1,400 artists at 100 galleries, buildings, businesses, and homes around Northeast Minneapolis.

Larger events will include All Together Now: Eastside at Eastside Food Co-op, 2551 NE Center Avenue, where attendees can meet 11 local artists and enjoy live music from six local bands and soloists, and food and beer for purchase. The NE Sculpture & Gallery Factory, 1720 Madison Street, NE # 14 will hold Art Cars: Parade & Show.

Elsewhere, A-Mill Artists Lofts, 315 SE Main Street, houses over 60 artists vendors who will be demonstrating their prowess in areas such as ceramics, painting, photography, screen painting, and jewelry. This event will also have food trucks, beer, and a kids' table.

Smaller events will include a free arm knitting demonstration at the 2nd floor lobby at the Casket Arts Building, 681 17th Avenue NE; art magnets at NE Tree House, 326 Monroe Street, NE; and a Beaded Ring Class at the California Building, 2205 California Street NE Studio.

Workshop themes will include painting florals, patches, polymer clays, printmaking, Postcards, and pottery. Food trucks will be at different locations selling everything from cheesecake, and pasties, to homemade chocolates. Many attendees will no doubt be collecting Business Cards from those artists they especially enjoy.

Art-A-Whirl will take place May 17 through 19.
