Earth Day this year will be April 20, and many parks and nature centers will be holding events.
The 5k Bee Run will be an Earth Day Walk/Run in conjunction with a day of cleaning up the pollinator pathway, along the Mississippi River at Boom Island Park. A Kids’ Run will begin at 8:30 am followed by the Fun Run/Walk at 9:00 am. The river cleanup will begin at 9:30 am.
Several lakes and creeks in the Minneapolis area will conduct Earth Day Cleanups starting at 9:30 am. The goal this year is to surpass last year’s number of volunteers, which was 501 and last year’s total amount of garbage collected which was 4,700lb. Programs at the sites will offer information about environmental and community issues.
North Mississippi Regional Park, 5116 N. Mississippi Drive, will hold own Earth Day Celebration. Park naturalists will lead hikes and families will have the option to take self-guided expeditions. Kids can participate in art activities and get their faces painted. Guests are also asked to help clean up the park. When attending events such as these, families often like to don their colored tees sporting the family Logo Design and do a little volunteering.
Naturalists at the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden will be giving free tours of the Spring wildflowers in the garden. Guests are to congregate at the Martha Crone Visitor Shelter, 1 Theodore Wirth Parkway. Preregistration is required and ends April 22 at 6:00 pm.
