Minneapolis will soon be celebrating its international sister cities with Sister Cities Day 2022. Although all the sister cities will be honored, special recognition will go to the 30th anniversary of the city’s connection with Harbin, China.
Performances will begin at 1:00 pm, with Harisen Daiko representing Ibaraki City, Japan. That will be followed by the International Children’s Performing Arts Group – Songs of Hope. A special ceremony for Harbin with remarks from elected officials will occur at 2:00 pm. Harbin will be represented by the Hui Family Lion Dance group. Somali Museum Dancers from Bosaso, Somalia will perform at 2:30 pm. The Heart and Soul Drum Academy will perform at 3:00 pm. It will represent Eldoret, Kenya.
Najaf, Iraq will be represented by the Ishraqat Sumeria Art Group at 3:30 pm, and they will be followed by children and adults in a folkloric dance representing Cuernavaca, Mexico at 4:00 pm. The Sister City performances will end at 4:30 pm with a music and dance group from Santiago, Chile.
Admission to Sister Cities Day 2022 will be free, and the festivities will have refreshments on offer, including ice cream. Cities often have pictures taken at events such as this to include in their brochure printing campaigns.
Sister Cities Day 2022 will take place on Sunday, July 17th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Nicollet Island Pavilion, 40 Power Street.
