The Cedar Cultural Center will be holding its 17th Annual Twin Cities Carnaval Brasileiro Masquerade Ball the first part of March. This event is considered the 5-state area’s largest Brazilian event.
Presenting an aura of vibrant Brazilian cultural, the Carnaval Brasileiro Masquerade Ball evening show will present Omulu Capoeira, Brazilian martial artists who will be showing combinations of dance, martial arts and Brazilian culture. Other entertainers will be vocalist Dandara Odara from Salvador, Brazil, the percussion band- Batucada Do Norte and the dance team Edilson Lima and Vanessa Luiz.
Host for the evening will be vocalist/guitarist Robert Everest and Beira Mar Brasil, his ten-member ensemble. Music will be reminiscent of the metropolitan and country dance styles of Brazil and will include Baiao, Frevo, Aze and Samba.
This year the fest will include a Brazifest Family Matinee from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Local children who have been attending Portuguese language classes and learning Brazilian musical styles over the last couple of months will be invited to join the performers on stage. Along with the live music performances, children will also get the opportunity to get their bodies and faces painted, make masks and join in the dancing.
The Center may have photographers on hand to take pictures for its 2020 brochure printing.
The Brazil bash will take place on Saturday, March 9th at the Cedar Cultural Center, 416 Cedar Avenue. The evening show will begin at 8:00 pm and end around midnight.
